Regrouping is carrying: when a column adds to 10 or more, one ten moves to the next column. 27 + 15 regroups (7 + 5 = 12); 23 + 15 doesn't. Most curricula teach addition without regrouping first, then with it, so the generator lets you choose "no regrouping", "every problem regroups", or a mix.
